The Central Bank of South Korean recently released economic data indicating that expenditures for study abroad are the lowest since 2005 as families reprioritize their budgets. This is a decrease of 14% in 2014 from that of 2013.
A separate report issued by the Ministry of Education in South Korea states there were 219,453 Koreans studying abroad in 2014. This is a 3.3% decrease from 2013. These numbers have continued to drop for the past 3 years. Most of the decrease in numbers are attributed to Australia, UK, and the United States.
